What is a Shar-pei?

Printer-friendly version

Chinese Shar-Pei may be any color -- cream, fawn, red, black, sable or even spotted. They may have a short coat (horsecoat), medium length (brushcoat) or over one inch in length (bearcoat). While most puppies are very wrinkled, they "grow into their coats" and as adults are usually not very wrinkled except around the face and neck. The average size is between 35-60 pounds.

Our rescue operation is a non-profit, tax deductible organization established in 1982 to help find suitable homes for unwanted, abandoned, lost or abused Shar-Pei. We will take responsibility for veterinary care and kenneling expenses. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered. We require a donation for each adoption which usually covers about 1/2 of our expenses on that dog.

Please see the American Kennel Club page for more information on the breed.
