What is a Shar-pei?

Chinese Shar-Pei may be any color -- cream, fawn, red, black, sable or even spotted. They may have a short coat (horsecoat), medium length (brushcoat) or over one inch in length (bearcoat). While most puppies are very wrinkled, they "grow into their coats" and as adults are usually not very wrinkled except around the face and neck. The average size is between 35-60 pounds.

Our rescue operation is a non-profit, tax deductable organization established in 1982 to help find suitable homes for unwanted, abandoned, lost or abused Shar-Pei. We will take responsibility for veterinary care and kenneling expenses. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered. We require a donation for each adoption which usually covers about 1/2 of our expenses on that dog.

When Shar-Pei first came to this country no two dogs were alike. This link will take you to pages to help identify a Shar-Pei. They will show you the various colors, coat types, head types, and tail sets so you may more properly define the Shar-Pei from a mixed breed.

You can learn about Shar-Pei Puppies from The Chinese Shar-Pei Puppy Book written by Joanne Redditt. You can purchase a limited edition autographed copy from us for $50.00.
