Not sure you are ready for a long term committment?
Consider fostering. MACSPRO will pay for food and any medical expenses
all you have to provide is shelter and love.
Still not sure?
Why not spend some time on the weekends walking and just
talking with our dogs that are in a kennel. A little love goes
a long way.

JuJuBee My name is Jujubee. I was found by a very nice lady who has been taking care of me. I live with 4 other dogs and sometimes we have some problems (well you know how siblings are). I love kids and people and would love a permanent home. My foster mother loves me but five in a house is a lot! I have had my spay, entropian and all shots done and am ready to go. Take a look at how pretty I am an maybe you will fall in love!
Annie My name is Annie and I am a young female found in Maryland. I am in the process of getting my spay taken care of and am friendly to people and other dogs. Please come meet me – you will fall in love.
China China is a young Pei in need of tender loving care. She is in the process of being vetted once we give her some time to get used to the kennel. She is learning to walk on a leash and is being treated for a skin infection. She loves people and needs a family to give her a second chance in life.
Koko Koko is a young female who has had a hard time adjusting to being away from her family. She is warming up and coming around and likes to play with toys. She likes other dogs and children and is about 3.
Doug Doug is a 4 year old brush coat Shar Pei. Doug was found as a malnourished stray during one of our recent bitter cold days. He has made great progress at our shelter, gaining weight, learning to trust our staff, and showing his funny, playful side to those people he knows well. He is good on the leash, appears to be housebroken and loves to play with stuffed toys! He is neutered and fully vaccinated, heartworm tested and has had bloodwork done as well. He would appreciate a home with someone who understands his breed and is prepared for some of the financial issues often associated with caring for a Shar Pei. He can be placed with children over the age of 8, as he can be slow to trust people he doesn't know (which is typical of his breed). Doug is currently available for adoption at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, and can be seen at http://www.alexandriaanimals.org/~awla/adopt_dogs.cfm

Note:
In the original books written about Shar-Pei, it was usually stated that their life span was 6 to 8 years. This is totally untrue today. What might have existed in China 25 years ago does not hold true today. With better nutrition, better medical care and better treatment by owners, these dogs now are capable of living 12 to 16 years. A dog 4 years of age still acts and usually has the health of a puppy.
We have lost dogs at 6 days of age, 9 months of age and up to 16 years of age.
Please if you are looking for a good companion, consider our "older dogs". We can state that they are in good health, heartworm negitive and up to date on all shots.

Also, be sure to check out our Other Shar-Pei Rescue Groups page if you live in an area outside the Washington D.C.- Metropolitan area and are looking for a dog. There are many rescues across the US that are near your home and can also help you find the right pet.
Please note that the people at MACSPRO are volunteers that also have very busy full-time jobs. We try to answer all e-mails, phone calls, and other requests as quickly as possible, but if we overlook responding to a request, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
